Sector Introduction: 2016
Following a worldwide development, reflecting global climate change and its implications for humankind, the Malaysian government acknowledges green economy as top priority for a stable growth. Focussing on green technologies, energy efficiency as well as on productivity and innovative utilities, Malaysia's ultimate goal is to position itself as a "Green Technology Hub for the ASEAN region". The target for renewable energy generation has been set to 2080 MW or 11% by 2020. Additionally, the Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water will implement various projects, such as the provision of clean water supply coming at a cost of MYR 877 million as well as increase the reliability of electricity supply with an investment of MYR 515 million.
Arisen out of the awareness that green technologies have a high and cost-effective return on investment in the long run, more and more private households and corporate entities commit themselves to green thinking and sustainable investment in their own infrastructure.
