Green Technology

Renewable energy is one of the most promising sectors for investment in Malaysia, yet not much has been done so far on the Malaysian side. Due to the presence of large oil and natural gas reserves in the country, the quest for more sustainable forms of energy has never been high on the agenda, but this is bound to change.

There is an increasing awareness that oil and gas reserves will not last forever, but also that Malaysia has huge potential for the utilisation of renewable energy sources like biomass and solar energy. Green technology, sustainability and renewable energy are being increasingly focused on. However, as of now Malaysia is still lagging behind its even less developed neighbours, with its share of renewable energy standing at less than 1%. It is also lacking a real strategy with regards to Renewable Energy, and incentives are negligible.

Strengthening the dialogue in this sector through the Services Sector Project will benefit both sides and open many business c-ooperation opportunities in an industry with huge potential, and in which European standards are leading.
